Edge automatically signs me in my Microsoft accounts.

Hi,

Edge automatically signs me in my Microsoft accounts such as Outlook and OneDrive when I open the websites relating to Microsoft. I did not authorize any automatic sign-in and I already turn -off and delete any password via edge, since I'm using a third-party app as password manager anyway. I tried logging out and closing the browser but when I open edge again it still logs me in. I did delete my history including cache and others as well.

I did try to sign out of the profile, and it does not sign me in automatically. It seems the problem is when I have sign-in to my profile in edge. This is something it does not do before. I have been using edge and signed-in in the profile for over a year and it always ask me for my password. But lately in the past few days, it stops doing so.

What I want to know if there is a way to not automatically sign me in edge even if I signed in my profile? Much like what it does before. Or is this a new edge update? (if so, this kind of sneaky Microsoft)

I hope you guys could help.

Thanks,

Rj

PS: I did synchronize my profile but only for extensions and collections. Also, I'm not using a local account for my windows.

Curious as to the current state of this issue. Edge is logging me in despite my account using Enforced MFA. I could be wrong but this sound like a fairly major security issue.

In digging deeper into the issue I agree this is by design and expected behavior. I have updated our best practices on logging into machines on a temporary basis, and will continue to advise my company against the use of Edge. Thanks for the replies!

    Hi Elimar,

    Thanks for the reply.

I have already tried the solution above and i did try it again today. Still, edge automatically logs me in Microsoft services without asking my credentials. This is only a problem with my edge browser when I signed-in in my profile. This does not happen before even when I'm signed-in in profile. It does not happen to other browsers, only in edge.

I feel uneasy that Microsoft logs me in automatically now. Makes me think of not using the profile or ditching edge altogether until a solution is found.

    Anyways, I'm still hopeful.

    Thanks,

    Rj

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I think you're right. Microsoft does this by design. Although, like I said in the post, it does not do it before. But it does now. The only work around I can find is by using a local sign-in for Windows pc instead of the Microsoft account. It does have its own drawbacks though.

It turns out that when you use Microsoft account as sign-in in Windows pc, it also auto-signs you in Microsoft apps like Microsoft office and Microsoft Edge. You can manage this though in the PC's Windows account. Or you can opt-out in using Microsoft account for your Windows PC altogether and use a local sign-in account instead.

I wish Microsoft allows you to choose which apps can auto sign-in. I don't know if there's any other solution or work arounds.
