Managing media playback issues and settings in Microsoft Edge on Windows 10

Hi,
I had installed HEVC for the past 5 months and able to watch Netflix with 4k and HDR on edge with no problem. Dolby Atmos, HDR and 4k Icons were shown.
However, since last 2-3 days, I noticed that it only display in 1080p max and all the 4k icons were missing. HDR also not working.
Not sure if it is due to window update or edge update that disable that?
My Netflix app is still able to show 4k and HDR properly. ( I prefer to use Edge to watch Netflix).
Need help how to resolve it.
Thanks,
Kenny

Hi David,
What was the solution here? I am having the same issue. Netflix support were useless. HDR and 4k work in the Windows 10 app but not in Edge.
Cheers,
Daniel
Hi There,
I tried to disable WideVine DRM but still no luck.
I'm not expert but I'm suspecting latest window update mess it up. I was able to watch 4k until 9th July as I recalled.
I had a window update on 10th July. (unfortunately, the restore point was gone).
Since I had installed older version Edge and not helping, so should be be Edge I guess.
I read old post that legacy Edge may help. Maybe I will try that.
I had sent feedback to the dev team as you suggested.
Thank you!
Hi kennyoce, it is okay for the PlayReady DRM to be disabled and you can also try to disable WideVine DRM via edge://flags/ and see how it goes for you. If it will still not work then you can also send a feedback to the dev team with regards to this one and hopefully this will be addressed on the next update.
Dear Paul,
Thanks, I had tried turning off the hardware acceleration and it became worst, only 720p.
Method 1 to Method 3 were not working for me. Still showing 1080p max.
I guess I will need to wait for next update, by the way, while searching for solution online, when I checked through edge://gpu/, I found that the PlayReady Hardware DRM seems disabled and I'm not sure if this is the reason behind and I could not find a way to enable it.
Thanks,
Kenny
Good day kennyoce! I am Independent Advisor Paul R. and I am glad to be able to provide assistance to you today. Have you tried turning off the hardware acceleration and see how it goes? To turn it off, in MS Edge go to Settings > System > Toggle the Use hardware acceleration when available and click on Restart. If it does not work, you can check the methods below.
Method 1:
Method 2:
Method 3:

If you will continue to experience the issue even after trying the above and if you felt that this is with regards to the recent update, you can also send a feedback to the team that is working on Edge and hopefully a fix will be applied soon on the next update and you can provide a feedback from the browser itself by clicking on the 3 dots > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
Regards,
Paul R.
