MS Edge collections - how to go back

Hello,

I am really annoyed by those attempts where Microsoft is trying to showel some suggested content to my face through features which used to be really cool and handy. Please anyone, can you help me to get to previous version of collections in MS Edge? We were checking this with colleagues - version of MS edge is not what caused this disgusting update. It has to be something specific to collections module. I was using collections for my daily workflow to organize grouped tabs, now it is not even possible to save whole groups into this. And I do not even want to open collections infested with Tom Cruise and other irelevant persons.

Microsoft releases usefull feature and after ppl get used to it they will insert advertisment and marketing content. Widgets seemed great in Win 11 until I saw that it is just platform to advertise articles I absolutely do not care about and this "suggested content" is not even possible to turn off. Now collections in Edge. I am so angry at this point I am concidering Fedora as main operating system since gaming is not a problem anymore. I did not pay for Win 11 PRO to have some twisted social/marketing platform within my OS.

Any help in this case is welcomed.

No worries. Just remember that you're not alone with this problem, and others may also feel the same way you do. When times I'm not satisfied with Edge, I use Vivaldi. Personally, I enjoy installing extensions, and you might be surprised to learn that you can install an extension that is similar to or better than an Edge feature. For instance, I just found these two extensions that might help. You can check them and see if one would work for you as an alternative to Collections. :)

I am sorry, but this is not a bug. This is MS yet again abusing feature for marketing. This feature was so cool and they ruined it by removing "save as collection" in tab groups, collections are not just drop down anymore - so I need to take more actions to open my workflow and close it. Also it is now sending my data to bing instead of being localy stored, it also introduced that "start to collect" sh**, it introduced option to follow some "content creators" and overal it became annoying and frustrating to use. Do not tell me all of this is "bug" because it is not. It is just abuse of handy feature and making it infested with advertisment so Microsoft can offer another advertisment platform in each Windows computer so they can abuse this insane reach MS have.

Do not worry dude. I am just angry at Microsoft and sometimes I overstep. Workaround is nice, but it will not solve this problem in a cause. Main problem is MS ignoring feedback and they will eventually keep this in a state nobody will use it. It is really annoying, they made really great browser packed with features I really like. I switched from Chrome to have finaly vertical tabs, they added tabs groups - great, and here we can manage those groups in collections so we will not lose those - even better. But some obnoxious marketing manager decides we should include advertising so we have another marketing platform in each browser. Yaay..

There's no need to be sorry since I share the same sentiments. I should be the one to apologize if my answer was in any way unhelpful. I am simply a user like you, and I understand the frustration because we have no control over it. I'm just here to help others if I feel I have an answer, and I'm just sharing what I think is the problem because I'm experiencing the same issue. I just shared my workaround with you, in case it helps. :)

Hi JanRocek, I am Paulo, and I'd like to help.

I'm sorry to hear you're having the same problem. This is a known bug, and I've been having this issue as well for a couple of weeks now. I've noticed that offline profiles (without an MS Account signed in and synced) do have the option, but if you sign into your personal account, the option will disappear. It seems to be tied to personal Microsoft accounts, I think, as I've seen users with work accounts, or at least those with the old Collections layout, not experiencing any issues.

Unfortunately, there is no way to get to previous Collections as updates to the feature are released through the browser itself. The workaround up to this point has been to either sign out and sign back in to your Microsoft account in edge:/settings/profiles or use an offline profile. I really hope this gets fixed in future updates.

Here's the thread on this problem:
