I'm trying to clear up space in my C drive as I'm running low and by using WinDirStat, it shows that this file eats up 15GB of space. Is this safe to delete/move? What happens if I do?

    Hello Aaron

Im Juliet and Im happy to help you :)

IndexedDB.edb is a file associated with the IndexedDB (Indexed Database) feature used by web browsers to store data offline. Deleting or moving this file will not cause any critical issues with your operating system, but it may have consequences for web applications that rely on IndexedDB data.

When you delete the IndexedDB.edb file, you are essentially removing the local storage data for web applications that use IndexedDB. This means that if you have any web applications that store important data locally, that data will be lost. However, web applications will typically rebuild their local storage when you revisit them, so you won't lose any data from the online version.

Before deleting or moving the file, it is advisable to check whether any web applications you use rely on IndexedDB. Some examples include offline versions of productivity tools, note-taking apps, or web-based games that save progress locally. If you're unsure about a particular web application, it's recommended to back up any important data associated with it before removing IndexedDB.edb.

If you're concerned about the file's size, you can also consider clearing the data stored within IndexedDB instead of outright deleting the entire file. Most web browsers provide settings or options to manage and clear site data, including IndexedDB data. This way, you can reduce the file size without losing data from your web applications.

In summary, deleting or moving the IndexedDB.edb file won't harm your operating system, but it may result in the loss of locally stored data for web applications that rely on IndexedDB. It's essential to consider the consequences and back up any important data before making any changes.

    I hope this helps :)
