I see that edge icon has little brown mark as in the pic below since a couple of weeks now. What does it mean?

You forgot the picture, but I'm guessing you're referring to the briefcase overlay on the taskbar icon. If this is the case, click ⋯ (Settings and more) > Settings > Appearance > Show briefcase icon on work profiles. If it's turned on, you'll see the 'brown mark' on the work profile's taskbar icon.
