What do we do after receiving a Trojan virus warning?

My husband got up this morning and tried to look for some information on a website that is new to him when he got a pop-up saying he has a Trojan. It also said to contact Microsoft and gave a number to call. He didn't know what to do so he turned the computer off. Where do we go from here and are we at risk of already having had information stolen?

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Well done for being suspicious, you would be amazed how many users fall for this!

Rest assured your PC is not infected and no data was stolen!

This is a well known Tech Support SCAM do not click anything on that page and do not phone any number on that page.

When this happens, open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc)

On the processes tab, locate your browser and end task on that

You can then continue to user your PC as normal and browse the Internet

This is caused by a browser re-direct on a page you are visiting, try to avoid any page that jumps out to this sort of page.
