Install EA Play or Origin without it sending me straight to the Microsoft store?

Hi.

I've just purchased a new laptop with Windows 11. I'm trying to install either the EA Play app or Origin app but it gives the download file but when I click either by admin or in general, it sends me straight to an error page sending me to the Microsoft store.

Can anyone help?

    Hi Samantha,

S Mode is causing the problem, when Windows is in S Mode, you can only install software from the Microsoft Store.

Most people find they need to switch Windows out of S Mode to Windows Hoe, because it is too restrictive and does not allow installing 3rd party software.

It is free to switch out of S Mode to Windows Home, but it is a one way operation, they provide the steps on this link.

Hi Dave, thanks for your reply.

I can get as far as Apps Advanced Settings but the only drop-down menu I can see only see 'Share Across devices', 'App Execution Aliases', etc.

    Hi Samantha,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

    1

Open the Settings App, then go to System - About

What edition (Home, Pro or S Mode) of Windows 11 is installed on your new laptop?

    2

In the Settings app, go to Apps - Advanced App Settings

At the top of that settings page there should be a drop-down menu to device where you can install apps from,, is that set to 'Anywhere'?
