When I open a pdf and make annotations on it for a while, the screen will go black and a sad face appears on it. How do I fix this and recover my pdf without losing any of the changes I've made?

I've found no fix to this, but I figured out a work around: when I try to open a PDF and get that sad face, I just refresh the page and it opens.

This issue is happening to me as well. I edit and take notes on a pdf document that's important and go to save then the black screen and the puzzle face appears. Lost my morning's work and have to do it over again.

Did you ever get a fix for this?

So we traced our issue back to a Cisco AMP update they did this week. If you have AMP you may want to look there.

Sorry for the late reply. I would like to get more information about your computer. What Operating system are you using? What is the version number of your Microsoft Edge? You can check by following the steps below.

    1. In Microsoft Edge, click on the three dots menu button.
    2. Go to Help and feedback.
    3. Click on About Microsoft Edge.

I know this was posted quite a while ago, but it looks like this thread has gotten some views recently. Hence, I wanted to check in and see if you (or anyone landing on this thread via search) still see this behavior on the latest version of Microsoft Edge.

    Eric
