Google Chrome redirects to Yahoo

As the question says, when I am in Google chrome in my standard personal account, it redirects to Yahoo. But when I log in with my work email or use Guest Mode, it does not redirect to Yahoo. I have all possible browsers deleted but Google, and I have Google Chrome set as the default browser. The only extensions I have are Apps (which I can't delete) and Google Docs Offline. This does not happen when I log in to my personal account at my work computer. The only explanation I can have is there is some secret spot in Chrome I haven't looked, or it is something I downloaded to my computer that doesn't affect Guest Mode or my other accounts.

Do you guys have any thoughts? I used to be tech savvy, but the information has left me, so any complex information please put in detail.

Thank you for your help.

    Hi HlpMePlzzz,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I suggest you try to set the search engine in Google Chrome settings to Google, and then try to search to see if it will redirect to Yahoo!

If there is no recovery then chances are you have a browser hijacker interfering with your internet browser’s settings.

I suggest you try the following methods:

    1. Reset Google Chrome (1)    Open Google Chrome and tap on the three-dot menu at the upper right corner. (2)    Scroll down the Settings tab, and then click the Advanced button. (3)    Scroll down to the Restore settings to their original defaults option shown directly below. Then click the Restore settings to their original defaults option. (4)    Press the Reset settings button to confirm.
    2. Using chrome malware scanner (1)    Open Chrome and go to Settings. (2)    Scroll down and click Advanced to open all settings. (3)    Scroll down to the Reset and clean up section and click Clean up computer.
    3. Scan your computer with Microsoft Defender (1) Search for Windows Security in the search box (2) Click Virus & threat protection (3) Click Scan Options (4) Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan)
    4. Clean boot I recommend you perform a clean boot to troubleshoot in case any third-party programs or services are causing the redirect. After the clean boot, if there is no redirect to Yahoo, you can use the dichotomy to try which third-party program is causing the problem. Please refer to the following links for how to do this: How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem. These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get you back on track.

If none of the above methods recover, I suggest you give up using Google Chrome.

Microsoft Edge is one of the best Chrome alternatives out there. It’s Chromium-based, available on all platforms, and supports all the Google Chrome extensions.

    Download Microsoft Edge

If you still want to use Google Chrome, you can try this method:

Use the ISO image file of Windows 11 to in-place install

If under clean boot, no attempt has been made to open third-party processes and pop-up ads appear, then, in this case, I recommend that you overwrite the installation with an ISO image file of Windows 11. This will not affect your current system configuration or data.

Hi, I'm familiar with this hijacker. If you could scan with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST), and share the logs it creates, I'll help you remove it.

    https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/

Run FRST as administrator, use default settings and press Scan. Two logs are created in the folder that FRST is run from, FRST.txt and Addition.txt. Zip the logs and share on OneDrive, Google Drive or any file sharing service, then post the share link.

    * Note: If you are downloading FRST with Edge, smartscreen will initially block it.

Click on the 3 dots next to the warning and select Keep -> Show more -> Keep anyway.
