Hello, DebbieMcNeil
Welcome to the Microsoft Community.
Thank you very much for your feedback. I have carefully read the information and problem description you provided.
I understand the problem that this problem has caused you. According to your description, you encountered a search problem when using Microsoft Edge, and the error message "Check your spelling or try different keywords" was displayed. Such errors are usually related to the following issues:
Based on the above analysis, I suggest that you can try the following methods to step by step troubleshoot the error.
Method 1. Check search engine settings
Open Edge, click the three dots (more options) in the upper right corner, and select Settings.
Select Privacy, Search, and Services in the left menu.
Scroll down to the Address bar and search section and check if your default search engine is working properly. If not, try switching to another search engine or reselecting your default search engine.
Method 2. Clear your browser cache and cookies
Open Edge, click the three dots in the upper right corner and select Settings.
Under Privacy, Search, and Services, find Clear browsing data and select Clear cache, cookies, and other site data.
Restart your browser and try searching again after clearing.
Disclaimer: The browser automatically saves temporary Internet files to help load pages faster. Clearing this cache can sometimes resolve page display issues. Please back up important data, such as favorites, to avoid data loss.
Method 3. Disable extensions
In Edge, click the three dots in the upper right corner and select Extensions.
Try disabling all extensions and try searching again. If the problem is solved, enable extensions one by one to find out which one may be causing the problem.
Method 4. Check your network connection:
Make sure your network connection is working and is not restricted by a proxy or firewall.
If you use a VPN, try disconnecting the VPN and then test the search function.
If none of the above methods work, try resetting your browser to default settings. Go to Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to default.
