In Edge and other browsers, the microphone doesn't work on the pages.

If your mic works fine in desktop apps (like MS Teams) but doesn’t work in any browser, and you’ve already checked all permissions, group policies, and even added sites to trusted — read on.

💡 Here's the key hint:
It works under a different user account, but not under your main one.

👉 The fix that finally solved it for me:

📌 Rename this registry folder:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CapabilityAccessManager\ConsentStore

Just add _backup at the end (or any name). Windows will recreate it with default permissions when needed.

✅ This reset broken or corrupted permission records — and boom, mic access in browsers was back.

Tried everything else — this was the fix. Hope this helps someone avoid hours of frustration! 🙌 P.S. I have tested on Windows 11.

    Hello Sergey,

Welcome to the Microsoft Support Community!

The issue you're describing seems to be related to corrupted or broken permission records in the Windows registry, not the Microsoft account itself. This is why the microphone works in desktop apps but not in browsers under your main user account.

    1. Backup the Registry:
      • Before making any changes, back up your registry. Open the Registry Editor (Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter). Go to File > Export, choose a location, and save the backup.
    2. Rename the Registry Folder:
      • Navigate to the following path in the Registry Edit
      • Right-click on the ConsentStore folder and select "Rename."
      • Add _backup to the end of the folder name (e.g., ConsentStore_backup).
      • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CapabilityAccessManager\ConsentStore
    3. Restart Your Computer:
      • Restart your PC to allow Windows to recreate the ConsentStore folder with default permissions.
    4. Test the Microphone:
      • Open your browser and test the microphone on the pages where it wasn't working before.
