I just recently bought a new desktop with Windows 11 on it and am unable to download the H&R Block tax software 2024 on it. The box comes up saying "preparing to install". Then after quite a while, a box comes up stating "install server not responding". My previous computer was a windows 8 and I've never had a problem downloading this software. I've been using it for over 10 years. Please help.....

    Hi, Amanda Alonzo1

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

Please ensure that you are running the installation process with administrative privileges.

This error could be related to certain services not starting properly. Since the software is a third-party application, you should contact the software manufacturer to inquire about the cause of this error and ask which services need to be started. Then, restart the relevant services to see if it resolves the issue.

You can also try an In-Place Upgrade to repair the system and make sure there are no underlying system-level causes for this issue.

In-place upgrade which will refresh your Windows files and operating system without removing files or applications. That being said, we always recommend that if you have important data, you should back it up before making large system changes. If you want to back up your data first, please do so. Once you are done backing up, you can follow the steps in the following guides:

How to run In-place upgrade in Windows 11 - Microsoft Community

(During the process, you might be asked for a product key. If you are an OEM user and don't know the key, you can simply skip this step.)

    Best regards
