Restoring deleted cookies

Hi, I've recently needed to clean my cookies from the last hour in Microsoft Egde, which has resulted in data loss from an online tool I was using. Is there any way to recover deleted cookies in Microsoft Edge?

    Hello, AdriannaR

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

Thank you for your feedback. You mentioned that you lost the data saved in the online tool after clearing the last hour cookies in Microsoft Edge. Unfortunately, once cookies are cleared, this information is usually not directly recoverable because cookies are stored in the browser's local files and there is no backup mechanism to restore these files.

However, there are a few things you can try to see if you can retrieve some data or minimize the damage:

    1. Check if there is any auto-saved data (e.g. account information)

Some online tools automatically save data or record login status, and even if cookies are deleted, the data may still be saved on the tool's server. You can try:

Re-login: If you have saved account information in the tool or have an auto-save feature, try to re-login and see if you can recover the previous data.

Check the tool's local storage: Some online tools may use Local Storage instead of just relying on cookies, try checking the tool's settings or documentation to see if there is an option to recover the data.

    1. Use your browser's history to recover your session

If you cleared cookies in your browser but did not clear the browser history, you may be able to recover your previous session using the history. Try the following method:

In Edge, press Ctrl + H to open the History panel.

Check the recently visited pages and click into them to see if you can restore the tools page you were using before.

    1. Check your browser cache

Even though cookies have been deleted, the browser cache may still hold some page content. You can try this:

Type edge://cache or edge://view-http-cache in the Edge address bar to see if you can find your missing content.

Sometimes, the pages cached by the browser may still load and you can check if the cached content can recover some of the data.

    1. Use a data recovery tool (for files only)

If you have higher needs for data recovery, you can try to use some professional data recovery tools to scan your hard disk (especially the browser's file storage path), but this is usually more effective for lost files and has limited effect on cookies recovery. Commonly used tools such as:

    Recuva

    Disk Drill

    EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard

However, the success rate of these tools is low, especially if the data has already been deleted and there is no backup.

    1. Check Edge synchronization

If you have enabled synchronization of Microsoft Edge and use Edge browser on other devices, you may be able to retrieve lost data or login status on other devices. You can check on the other device to see if the synchronization can be restored to what it was before you cleared the cookies.

    1. Avoiding future data loss

To avoid similar problems in the future, you can:

Backup cookies: Make regular backups of important cookies by using a browser extension such as “EditThisCookie”.

Use cloud storage or export function of online tools: Many online tools provide data export or cloud synchronization function to backup data regularly in case of loss.

I'm sorry that it's not possible to recover deleted cookies directly, but these methods may help you minimize the damage. If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know.

I look forward to your feedback.

    Best Regards,
