'this document is digitally signed. Some signatures are invalid' PDF error message

When trying to open PDF documents on Microsoft Edge, I am getting the following error message 'this document is digitally signed. Some signatures are invalid'.

With this message it does not allow me to add text or edit the PDF. I used to be able to open the exact same document on the same laptop and it worked fine before. I am able to edit the same PDF document fine on my old laptop using Microsoft Edge. Can you help with this?

    Hi, LMS_764

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

This error message may have the following causes:

    1. PDF file modification: If the PDF file has been modified, the original signature will become invalid.
    2. Expired or invalid signature certificate: The certificate used for the signature may have expired or become invalid.
    3. PDF reader version issue: Some versions of PDF readers may not handle signatures correctly.
    4. Network environment or account issues: Certain network environments or account settings may cause the signature to be invalid.

From your description, since the same file could be opened in the past and on other devices, it is likely an issue with the PDF reader version. You can try switching the version of Edge's PDF Viewer to see if that resolves your issue.

Additionally, you can test with a different version of Edge to see if it is a problem with a specific version of Edge.

    Hi

I just clicked the following link in the above post : edge://flags/#edge-new-pdf-viewer

Then made sure this option was disabled which seemed to work for me.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

I have a similar issue: the PDF signature is always declared unknown. Do you experience the same? Switching the PDF reader does not help. I believe they missed some root certificates. But even when I tried to include the certificate in edge, it could not validate the signature.

    Thankful for any hints!

    Best Berta
