Chrome is set as my default browser. Edge repeatedly opens links and seems to undo the defaults I have set. How do I disable Edge permanently?

I have of course changed the default browser back to Chrome (many, many times)

I have tried the "pdf viewer" solution offered in an earlier thread - no luck - several times.

I have tried a registry edit solution offered in another thread C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe

No luck.

This started happening earlier this week and won't go away it's happened before but I have been able to change the default browser with ease. on thStarted and restarted. And Edge just keeps coming back.

Can anyone help please? I am on Windows 11 Home, Version 10.0. 2261

I also found solution in Outlook. Also through Files, Settings... same sequence as through Teams. Obviously won't work with New Outlook because no File menu.

Hi - could you specify the exact sequence you used please? I tried in Outlook with File>Options>Advanced> but the only alternatives it offers me for "Open Word etc Files" are Desktop or Browser. It's set to Browser, but this is using Edge. I've checked that my default Browser is still set to Chrome, but there doesn't seem to be a way of specifying this in the Outlook choices. I'm attaching a screenshot of what I see.

    Many thanks, Helen

That's weird isn't it Gary - the only difference seems to be mine is 64bit (as above) and yours is 32bit.

Thanks for your help anyway, much appreciated.

    Helen.

I have the same problem and Microsoft Edge is repeated trying to overtake Chrome. I have a relatively new computer and Edge has slowed my unit down considerably. I don't want Edge.

Did you also look at the Browser settings in Teams? (for links that come through Teams)

3 dots in Teams > Settings > Files and links > Always open links in: DEFAULT BROWSER (instead of the standard setting of Microsoft Edge)
