Request to ask a question about a previous post now locked Gurjeet Jandu?

There is no CRX ID for the problem extension because it's not a real extension, it's just a message box in my browser saying there's a problem with an extension. As the Moderator DaveM121 and I left it last year was the only way to rid this problem is to reset my brand new laptop and start over, which I did. But as soon as I logged in to my Microsoft account and imported my settings, the problem was right there in my Edge browser again and therefore a PUP or something like it is in my profile settings. So I have just lived with it in my browser both Desktop and laptop for the past year. I have been trying to figure out how to delete my past profile settings and backups that would retain these settings so I thought I would ask here and see if either DaveM121 or Gurjeet Jandu are available to take a look?

Thank you,

jondan7

If you'd like to remove all traces of the extension, please run a scan with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) and share your logs.

    https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/

Note: If you are using Edge, SmartScreen may initially block the download.

Click on the three dots next to the warning and select Keep => Show more => Keep anyway.

    • If your computer's language is not English, rename FRST64.exe to FRST64English.exe
    • Run the tool, leave the default settings, and press Scan.
    • Zip the logs, FRST.txt and Addition.txt, then upload to a cloud storage service like OneDrive or Google Drive.
    • Post the share link.

Thank you for answering, I was trying to post this in a place where I could maybe get the attention of DaveM121 and/or Gurjeet Jandu.

I apologize for not posting the link from last September -

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftedge/forum/all/i-need-help-to-remove-simple-screen-capture/74d59676-b8f5-47d7-8d2b-30a26f6652fc

"Simple Screen Capture Screenshot" is not an extension as far as I know, ever and certainly not something I had looked for or downloaded from either Microsoft or Chrome webstore.

This only concerns the Edge browser as this "thing" is a notification that I have a bad add-on or extension, -- but I don't, it's not an existing extension but rather just this notification thing -- and here's what it looks like -- screenshot --

DaveM121 spent about 3 days with me trying to find it in the registry to eliminate and I believe that effort failed because it may be attached to my settings profile somehow and if some kid thought this up as a people prank it's rather good. I believe myself careful around shopping and emails, never open spam yet there I was last year in the screenshot above. Then, after DaveM121 and I signed off, I reset my HP Dragonfly laptop and began to start all over again, first by login to my Microsoft account and there it is, in the Edge browser again.

Very much frustrated I spent the last year using Chrome and Firefox and forgot about Edge. Now I am ready to try and fix this again, as I miss using the Edge browser and I remember enjoying Internet Explorer when it came out the summer of 1995 in Windows 95 on my new Micron desktop.

I would like to reset my HP Dragonfly and Lenovo desktop again but I would like guidance from the Community as to how to 'Not import backed up settings' after login. Can my profile settings for just the Edge browser be deleted? I should mention something important here, I did try resetting Edge twice to default last year October and that did not work either and therefore I don't believe the PUP to be in Edge settings.

Hi, the thread here will be moved in a while to Windows or Edge. Don't worry though. The involved who might be able to help further, can be pointed at it.

In the meanwhile, it would be helpful to have the thread link of the closed thread where the available information of the problem are already stored.

In case another user or moderator would like to join the helping force and to avoid the same questions being asked over. Like, does it happen only in Edge, or in other Browser if you use your MS account and so on.
