Why is Edge using an absurd amount of RAM? Could it be 4k monitors even with a dedicated GPU?

About 3 weeks ago Edge started using an incredible amount of RAM. I typically have a lot (30ish) tabs open for work and it's never been a problem. RAM usage was typically between 5-10gb. Now, when I click on a couple of the sleeping tabs it spikes up to as high as 25gb and I have to completely close Edge and relaunch it, or leave the computer be for a few minutes so it can settle down.

1-2 weeks before this started happening I switched from 2-32" 1440 monitors to 2-32" 4k monitors. I have an RTX 3060 and it's never maxed out.

Does it make sense that Edge is chewing through system RAM before all of the VRAM?

Thank you

I fixed the problem. I don't have time to do all of the troubleshooting so I switched over to Brave browser and no more issues.

    Thanks for your repsonse.

    1. The 11 minute video was not clear at all how to do a rollback.
    2. Privacy mode seemed to be working but after about 30m the huge spike in CPU and RAM usage happened again.
    3. I've done this already.
    4. Didn't make a difference.
    5. I'm still seeing the same issue with the beta version.

    Could this be the monitors?

Sorry for the late reply to you. You do have a strange problem and I have consulted with the relevant people. You can try the following methods:

    1. change the resolution of your 4K monitor back to 1080P to test the issue.

    2.Delete

    APPDATA\LOCAL\Microsoft\edge\

    Delete

    c:\Program files(X86)\microsoft\edge\

    1. Turn off the option to enhance web security in the EDGE settings;
    2. Since you have changed your monitor, you can try to remove your graphics card driver using DDU and reinstall the graphics card driver.

I look forward to your feedback, which will help me pinpoint your problem.

    Hello, Somewhat_clueless

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

Thank you for your feedback. I understand that you are experiencing an issue with EDGE taking up RAM. Here are some troubleshooting options:

    1. check if Edge is the latest version, if so, try rolling back to a previous version.

    1. Try using Privacy Mode to see if the problem is alleviated.
    2. Clear cache, cookies and browsing history.

Open the three dots in the top right corner of EDGE, open Settings and reset EDGE.

    1. Try turning off hardware acceleration in Edge settings.
    2. Test if you have the same problem using the beta version of EDGE.
