Previous open tabs were deleted after Windows Update

I see that this was a previous question; however, the resolution does not work. I found the sessions and tabs files in the windows explorer but, the resolution sends me to a bad internet URL. My Norton antivirus will not let me open the link. Long story short the windows updates are clearing my tabs which is a pain. I really shouldn't have to go through my history to find out where I was working before the update. Is there a reliable resolution, if I have the sessions and tabs files in the %AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default\Sessions folder?

I don't appreciate it when my work is tossed out!

That is not an answer. Anyone can find "CTRL+SHIFT+T" on hundreds of Google searches.

Also, what good has it ever done to "Provide Edge's development team" feedback? What would Edge have to do with Google Chrome browser User Data files?

The question is. Why after Windows Update and a restart did all my open Google Chrome tabs, pinned tabs and groups disappear? Obviously CTRL+SHIFT+T is not going to work under this circumstance. There is a more complex issue that causes this. It has happened twice to a co-worker of mine in the past few months. Neither time have we been able to resolve it or make any sense of it.

It would be great to get a real solution for this problem as it can be very critical and there is nothing Windows Updates needs to be doing that would effect C:\Users%CurrentUser%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Sessions

    Hi recook2

I have just had the same issue with Edge and my History has also been deleted so I cannot even find my previous tabs. Not sure where to go now but can sympathise with you. It seems a very generic response from Microsoft and not at all helpful.

Why it is even necessary to close and delete files in an update is beyond my comprehension. Good luck with yours.

Same to me this morning with months of open tabs and chome updates.

Seems this time, the update reset my setting on startup "Continue where you left off" which had to be reset.

Most updates don't influnce this but this one randomly did.

I jumped on my Windows PC today and got a nasty surprise. After literally months (years?) of receiving ongoing updates and so on wo nary a problem, my edge session information was wiped out today and looks like not fully recoverable even with a bunch of manual work.

I had six different desktops set up, each with 1-4 edge instances where each instance had multiple tabs, up to 20.

Normally a re-start of edge followed by a helpful "restore" button click opened all edge instances with all their tabs restored and the only work I had to do was to get them to the correct desktop page. Not today, everything was gone except for raw page-by-page history and it looks like not all the information I want to recover was there.

My Chrome sessions survived this event just fine, by the way.

chatgpt has no solution for me, general web searches didn't come up with anything (but did get me to this page where it looks like i'm not alone in losing information care of updates).

    help!?
