Edge Browser No Longer Enters Immersive VR Enabled Websites (WebXR Enabled Sites).

Issue: There is an issue when utilizing a Windows Mixed Reality (WMR) headset in VR (within the WMR Portal app), and opening an Edge browser window, when navigating to WebXR enabled websites.

Description: The Edge browser does not initiate VR immersive mode and only displays the website in 2D mode within the browser (as if it doesn't recognize you have an active VR device).

Symptoms:

  • There are no error dialog boxes
  • There are no prompts to "allow VR access"
  • Browser navigates as if there is no VR headset present

Steps to Reproduce:

  • Latest updates on Edge (version 126.0.2592.87), WMR Portal, OpenXR (WebXR)
  • Open WMR Portal
  • Open Edge browser window within VR
  • Navigate to known WebXR enabled website.

UPDATE 1: As of August 28, 2024 using Edge version 128.0.2739.42, the sample WebXR page properly starts an Immersive VR session with Windows Mixed Reality. However, Youtube.com on the Edge Browser is still missing the goggle icon to enter VR.

UPDATE 2: As of September 24, 2024 using Edge version 129.0.2792.52, the WMR immersive goggles for Youtube.com have returned.

UPDATE 3: As of September 30, 2024 ...aaaand its gone again. Edge updated to 129.0.2792.65 and I lost VR immersive again on Youtube. I tried manually reverting back to .52, but the goggles did not come back (...and Edge seems to not keep the reversion and updates itself back to .65 no matter what I do). At this point, I'm not even sure its the edge versions or something else in the cumulative update (also tried an uninstall). Oh well guess i have to keep sending feedback.

UPDATE 4: Version 129.0.2792.79 has borked WebXR again. Links begin to go to immersive mode, but end up at a black screen with spinning white orbs. Its like they are going backwards and getting worse. It sucks because everything was working with ver .52 (but reverting doesn't fix the issues once its broken).

**Upvote this issue in Microsoft feedback hub here: https://aka.ms/AAsitrw

NOTE: In each instance, I have used the "feedback" app for Windows and submitted the issue. While I can't confirm that the exact feedback I submitted was effective, It does however seem that updates and fixes are indeed still being implemented for Windows Mixed Reality, as of this posting and updates.

    HI

VR has gone from our 10 VR machines for WebXR

We have W11 23h2 with Edge 129.0.2792.65 - we have WMR installed which means Edge should be our preferred browser

If this could be looked at

    THanks

I also experience that Microsf Edge no longer allows to enter in Immersive Mode. I have lot of developments made with babylon.js, using the scene.createDefaultXRExperienceAsync() functions. I am using the development via quest / quest link. To use my desktop for rendering. Before holidays it was showing the "VR glasses" to enter immersive mode, now it is not showing anymore. So i also acknowledge this is something that was working and now not anymore.

I tried the reset method you suggested and it still does not enter immersive VR mode. I will try to sending feedback Edit: However, this issue needs to be elevated as after doing some internet research, I am seeing that immersive mode was broken in the recent past, was fixed, and now it is broken again.

My apologies in this case and as mentioned above, if you will continue to experience the issue even after trying the above and if you felt that this is with regards to the recent update, you can also send a feedback to the team that is working on Edge and hopefully a fix will be applied soon on the next update and you can provide a feedback from the browser itself by clicking on the 3 dots > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
