Sad puzzle piece on pdf

When I open a pdf and make annotations on it for a while, the screen will go black and a sad face appears on it. How do I fix this and recover my pdf without losing any of the changes I've made?

    I just started getting this. Every PDF "opens" with the pixel sad face. If I drag a saved PDF into Edge, I see a quick "blink" of the document contents and then it goes to the sad face again. None of the Acrobat controls work either.

    Edge Version 123.0.2420.10 (Official build) stable app, beta channel (64-bit) on Windows 11

    Using @FLHEKE's suggestion to enable the "New PDF Viewer" seems to help!

    we have the "sad puzzle piece" behavior since end of August/beginning September if the PDF came from SAP and we found out that the same PDF working when we set the "New PDF Viewer" to "enable" in egde:flags

    I have been getting the same problem whenever I try to edit and save a pdf. document. Of course this is happening at the most inconvenient time when I need to update an important document. Does windows have a fix for this?

    Hello Frog5gy, welcome to the Microsoft community, I'll be happy to help you today;

    At the time of the black screen appear just a sad face without an error message?

    It would be interesting if you could provide a screenshot at the time of the error;

    However, I believe that it will be difficult for you not to lose the changes;

    Try saving the file before closing;

    To try to fix this problem with Edge I suggest you try the following;

    Check if you are updated with the latest version of Windows 10;

    Press Windows key + i and go to Update and Security;

    Click Check for updates and do ALL pending updates;

    Update Edge;

    Open Edge and go to Settings;

    Click on About Microsoft Edge in the menu on the left of the screen;

    If there is any update will be done;

    Update the video card driver;

    If you don't know how, inform the model and manufacturer of your graphics card;

    Repair Edge;

    Press Windows key + i and go to Applications;

    Select Microsoft Edge from the list and click Modify;

    Click Repair;

    Check if that black screen with sad face still appears;
