How do I import my edge favourites bar into a workspace.

Hi, I have recently started experimenting with the workspaces feature in Microsoft Edge. I believe this feature will be useful for my work and for studying as when doing either of these activities I require specific tabs and tab groups to be open, and it would be really convenient to have a workspace for each activity.

Unfortunately I cannot seem to find a way to import my favourites bar from my defualt (non workspace) profile of edge to the workspace. I have gone into the favourites settings and found that I can export my favourites folders from the defualt profile and then import them to the workspace but this does not include my favourites bar.

The process of exporting and importing is rather annoying becuase the easiest way in my option to implement this would just be to give me the option to make a copy of my defualt profile when making a workspace and then I can change it how I wish.

I understand that I can just open every favourite from the favourites bar and then create a new workspace with these tabs and then add them to the favourites bar in the new workspace but I have many favourites in my favourites bar and why does this process have to be so tedious and time consuming when the entire purpose of a workspace is to make web browsing more convenient?

If there is a way to do this easily please let me know. If not then I really hope that Microsoft implements a solution for this in the future becuase its such a simple thing that would make a huge difference.

I don't use workspaces to collaborate with other people. I just want to have a workspace for easily setting up a work or study environment complete with my favourites, favourites bar, tabs and tab groups that is just the same as I left them after the last time I closed the browser.

This would be a wonderful thing to have.

Hi John, I am Paulo and I'd like to help.

I've been experiencing the same problem, but unfortunately, there is no straighforward method to share your Favorites to Workspace. However, I came up with a couple of workarounds for now.

    • To use the Favorites icon (see the image below). The Favorites icon is displayed on your Workspaces so you can still access your favorites from the main bar.
    • Open edge://favorites and just press Ctrl+A to highlight all of your favorites > Open all. Right-click on the open tab > Add all tabs to favorites (Ctrl+Shift+D) and just choose the Workspace as your location

Also, please submit feedback so this feature gains the attention of the developers by pressing Alt+shift+i.

    A more efficient workaround:

    1. Export Favorites Bar to a html file with addon Selective Bookmarks Export Tool
    2. Open the exported html file with a text editor
    3. Delete PERSONAL_TOOLBAR_FOLDER="true" in html file
    4. Change the folder name Favorites Bar to something random in the html file (e.g. My Favorites Bar )
    5. Import the html file to Edge in setting (edge://settings/profiles/importBrowsingData)
    6. Find the imported bookmark folder in Manage Favorites - Other Favorites and move/drag it to workspace

So that I don't forget this process... I am going to add this link to my Favorites Bar! 😆 Excellent work around!
