Opening and reading PDF files in Microsoft Edge on Windows 11

I prefer using Microsoft Edge as my PDF viewer and editor because it has easy to use tools that let me write, type, highlight, etc. easily and directly on the PDF and then save my work. Suddenly, the PDF icon for Edge disappeared from the files. I've tried changing the default program and changing it back. I've tried resetting Edge to its default settings. Nothing so far has worked. When I go to Explorer and right click on the PDF file, it shows Edge as the selected and default program. Any ideas of how to get the proper icon back?

After researching this issue I discovered that Microsoft will soon be removing the PDF reader from the Edge browser.

cmd admin sfc /scannow and restart fixes the issue (tested on several clients) but as you need admin rights for this - not really a good fix.
In any case, this does the job for people who just want to have it fixed on their workstations.
We seem to be affected by this as of today.
This is a pretty significant security issue for the nonchalant replies from Microsoft so far. Conditioning Users to click on files without any obvious file type is not optimal to say the least...
Same problem. The solution did not work for me.
I have the same issue. I tried using the Beta, didn't work.
Any new solutions?
