Opening and reading PDF files in Microsoft Edge on Windows 11

I am having an issue with Edge taking over my PDF app. My default browser for PDF is PDF Suite. I do change back and forth between PDF Suite and Adobe Acrobat because sometimes I need the functionality of Adobe Acrobat. Today, I was attempting to change from Acrobat back to PDF Suite and it automatically changed to Microsoft Edge as the Default app. Now I cannot change it back to Adobe or PDF Suite. How can I remove Edge as the default for PDF app?
I can do a shut down and restart and at first I can select Adobe or PDF Suite, but when I go to change back to one or the other, that is when Edge takes over and then I cannot change again unless I do a shut down and restart again.

I have tried all of the above and nothing seems to work. I toggle back and forth between Adobe Acrobat PDF and PDF Suite in Windows 11 and have done so for several years. All of a sudden, now when I try to change the default from Adobe to PDF Suite or vice versa, Edge takes over the PDF and then I cannot change it to either Adobe or PDF Suite. The only thing that will change it is to shut down and restart or shut down completely. Then if I try to go from Adobe to PDF Suite or PDF Suite to Adobe, Edge takes over again. This is very frustrating. I had not changed anything on my laptop and do not know why this is happened. I have done everything I can find online and in other chat groups and nothing seems to work. I just want to go back to what I was doing and DO NOT want to use Edge as my PDF default.
Hi, Judy Lemons1.
Welcome to Microsoft support community.
We noticed you are having problem with Edge keep taking control of your PDF default application setting.
Upon our investigation, it seems that this is a pretty tricky issue to handle. But nevertheless let us try to break down your problem:
----- My interface is Windows 10, just for reference.
Go to the Setting, search default application, select default apps by file type, this could be a checking point for your default application in Setting.
When you change the default application, check the above page to see the change, after your reboot if you noticed the change has been revert back you could check this page again to see if the change is reelected on the Setting.
For now, I would suggest:
Reset option could be found under setting page fairly easily. This will reset the Edge to default state to see if it is the corrupt Edge setting get you into the issue.
| Disclaimer: Before reset please remind to back up your edge data under the directory:

C:\Users<UserName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data

Otherwise you might have a chance of data lost |
|---|
Switch to a new local account for Windows login, this is to prevent the corrupt user profile to prevent you from using the right setting in your browser.
While above solution might not solve your problem instantly, I hope at least it will help you; feel free to keep the situation updated so we could continue investigation. Looking forward about your reply.
