When I try to create a system image on a network location Windows asks for Network credentials for the target location. The credentials I enter are correct but I always get an error message that the location can't be used because the password is not correct
(Error code 0x80070056).
Screen shot
The target location is a share on a netdrive - D-Link DNS-323. And the share I want access for the backup is already mapped to my computer.
Actually, I got the same error when I mapped the netdrive.
Instead of just using the entered username Windows 7 adds the computer name as domain in front of the user-/login name in this scheme: Computer Name\Login Name
I suppose due to this "domain" addition the authentication fails because the network drive does not recognize the login name with the domain addition. The Windows Network credentials window always said that the (definitely correct) password is incorrect. If
you check the box for saving the login information the explorer will allow to open the drive even though the authentication had failed. And by now the mapped drives reconnect automatically and can be accessed out of the explorer without problems.
Is this behavior a bug in Windows 7? Any way to fix or work around this?
