I am running out of space on my Recovery Disc.  I noticed that both the compress and index boxes are both checked.

I would like to know what to do and how to delete files on the recovery disc.

Thank you for your help.

Recovery Drive:

Contact your Computer Manufacturer on how to remove anything you have saved to the Recovery Drive, as it is their Recovery Partition, not Microsoft’s.

Your D: Drive normally is the Recovery Partition, that the Manufacturer put there, for your computer to put it back to factory settings in case of System Crash.

It is not for you to save anything to; and it is not to compress and/or Index,, Disk Cleanup, use for Backup, Defrag or have System Restore turned on for it!!!!.

Whatever you have installed or saved to D:, delete it very carefully, stop indexing, uncompress.

You are supposed to have made Recovery disks from D:, in case of Hard Drive failure.

Ask the Manufacturer how to make them, and how to delete/fix what you have done there.

It is very unwise to delete these files as this is your ONLY way to recover your PC in the event of a catastrophic problem with the operating system that can only be repaired by returning your PC to the "out of the box" configuration.  In fact, most PCs with a recovery partition will not allow you to save data to that partition.  If you are still determined to do this the easiest way to delete this data is to boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.  Change to the focus to the recovery partition and delete everything form the command prompt.  I am not trying to be insulting but if you don't know how to do this you probably shouldn't be deleting your Recovery Partition data because without it to fall back on you would have to be savvy enough to reload Vista and setup all of the drivers on your own.

Shame installing Windows 7 allows you to install right to the recovery drive with no warning. Now I've got the same problem. Should you really need to be an IT expert to upgrade your OS?
