How do you change the default file explorer in Windows 7 to your personal preference (e.g., I prefer Directory Opus)?

In Directory Opus, there is a configuration setting to replace Windows Explorer.  In general, this does work; however, there are numerous occasions where Windows 7 will still launch Windows Explorer or set it to the default selection.

I just want Windows to always launch Directory Opus instead of Windows Explorer.

Do you know how and where I make that configuration?

Thanks!

Hello Nusaram,

Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forum!

You can check if there is a updated version of Directory Opus for Windows 7. Since this Software works for your File System, there should be an updated version to work for Windows 7.

You can refer the below link for the support options for Directory Opus:

I do have the latest version of Directory Opus.

But my question was if there's a way in Windows 7 to configure/specify which program to use as the default file explorer?

Directory Opus works fine; however, there are occasions where Windows 7 will launch Directory Opus and there are occasions where it will launch Windows Explorer.  Windows 7 clearly knows which .exe to execute based on some registry value--it must be getting it from there, but how/where can I specify my own custom file explorer (i.e., Directory Opus)?

    Thanks.
