60 plus processes running at start up?

Anonymous
2009-03-22T23:56:57+00:00

When I go to my task manager is shows 40-60 processes running depending on when I boot up. The pc has been running very slow. How can I figure out what process should be on, and make the rest stop opening at start up. Please talk to me like a 5 year old, cuz I am not that pc literate. Thanks!

Here is my log:

    Hi xena6174,

I just noticed from your reply that you are using Windows XP, my apologies. You can probably still use a lot of the methods from that website and apply them to Windows XP by adjusting the steps. As far as disabling certain programs to start with Windows XP you can do the following:

    1.       Click Start, then Programs, then Startup. From here right-click and click Delete on any programs that you do not want to start with Windows XP.

    2.       Then Click Start, and in Run type msconfig, then hit Enter

    3.       Click the Startup tab in the window that appears for the “System Configuration Utility”

    4.       Uncheck any programs that you do not want to start with Windows

    5.       Click OK and then Restart in the message that appears

I hope this resolves your issue. We look forward to hearing back from you on your results.
