Hey, Ive been dealing with the same thing, and its become unbearable...BUT I FIXED IT!
I am by no means a novice, love pc's, etc. I tried all my power saving options, etc, tried everything. Nothing worked.
My laptop would just go to sleep after 2 mins if I didnt do anything, even if a game is active, or im watching a movie. After just trying to deal with it for 2 weeks now, Ive had enough!!!
****THANKS FOR THE HELP INTERWEB, BUT IF IT WAS AS SIMPLE AS POWER PROBLEMS, WE WOULDNT BE ON FORUM*****
These are my settings, I always had everything in power options set as Never go to sleep/hibernate/no password needed, etc.
BUT my SCREEN Saver options was also "NO SCREEN" or the none option.
**Here is what caused the problem.**My problem started after Windows did a recent update (recent as between Nov 2009-Dec 2009) that installed "Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2...". One of the things it does is installs a Second User account onto the computer, even though it doesnt show on the login screen.
I found out by checking User accounts in C: drive for a game, and saw the new account by accident. NOTE* NEW ACCOUNT = ITS OWN SETTINGS.*
I wanted to keep the update, but not the account, so I went to Control Panel, deleted new account, but left its files (which also left its settings). You dont have to remove the new account.
Now, the PC still reacted as per those new settings for "SCREEN SAVER" (a glitch?) since mine were set at none. After a few days doing/undoing power options, all this dawned on me (inspiration?).
ANSWER: Go to Control Panel>Personalize>Screen Saver> Make an active screen saver. Mine was set at none. I changed it to one, and placed it at 60 minutes and no login on resume.
Problem solved.
I hope this helped. Reply to let me know.
Later, Im going to change it back to none, and see if the problem is still solved (changed over old settings from previous account?) or if it repeats (permanent glitch that needs to be reported to microsoft).
