Pfaff 3D Embroidery Artist Software installation on new laptop

I need advice on installing Pfaff 3D Embroidery Artist v.7(2004) by VSM on my new laptop. This is software to create machine embroidery designs for the Pfaff (German brand)sewing/embroidery machines.  To prevent piracy, a dongle(looks like a flash drive), registered to the owner, must be inserted in order to open and use the software. When Vista launched, Pfaff advised that this software would not run on Vista.  After several months, advice on this problem popped up on the Pfaff website, recommending a driver to be downloaded to make the software and dongle compatible(a HASP from Aladdin Co.) I have been to various blogs and the advice on this is conflicting.  Some persons report great difficulty, while others sail through the installation without any problems.  I want to gather all of the info I can before I try, in hopes that it won't be difficult.  My sewing machine dealer has no experience with this, even thought she sells the machines and software.  Pfaff now has a new version out called 4D, but I would rather try to install what I have, as the new software package is around 2K.  I hope you can help me and looking forward to your reply!

    Hi,

Welcome to Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

You may have to contact the Software provider if you are not able to install the software.

However, we can help you check if that software is compatible with Vista. Also, there is an option available in vista to run programs written for earlier versions of Windows. Most programs written for Windows XP also work in this version of Windows, but some older programs might run poorly or not run at all.

    Run the Program Compatibility Wizard

     1.  Open the Program Compatibility Wizard by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Use an older program with this version of Windows.

    2.  Follow the instructions in the wizard.

If you cannot install a program, insert the installation disc for the program and, using the wizard, browse to the program's setup file, usually called Setup.exe, Install.exe, or something similar. The wizard is not designed to work on programs that have an .msi file name extension.

Check the link  “Make older Programs run in this version of Windows” http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/bf416877-c83f-4476-a3da-8ec98dcf5f101033.mspx

    All the best!

    Thanks and Regards:
