Missing PDF Files... Once I create a PDF file they show up in a "browse" dialog box, but when I go to the specified folder location, they are not there.

I recently bought a new laptop with Windows 7 and have tried creating PDF documents with both the software that I purchased as well as the built in "Docu Driver" When I print to these "printers" to convert the file into a PDF file, I'm able to save the file in a specified location. However, when I go to that location to open the file, it isn't there. So I attempt to reprint the documents. BUT when I go to reprint the pdf'd document and the browse dialog box opens, it shows the previous file there. Again, when I go back to the location, it's not. How do I correct this? I use my pdf converters like water for my clients, so it's very essential to my day to day business needs. Thanks!

Hi obrooks1,

Welcome to Microsoft Answers.

Which software are you using to convert to the PDF files? At which location are you saving your file?

It is possible that there is some setting in the software which will enable you to save the files to some personal folder on the hard drive. The files which you are viewing might only be listed because of the settings in the software to view the last printed files.

You may enable the viewing of hidden files and then check, please follow these steps:

  1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
  2. Click on the Start button.
  3. Click on the Control Panel menu option.
  4. Click on the Appearance and Personalization link.
  5. Now click on the Show hidden files and folders option.
  6. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
  7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide extensions for known file types.
  8. Press the Apply button and then the OK button.

You may refer to the below mentioned link to help you use the search option to search your saved files - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Find-a-file-or-folder

Hope this helps. Let us know the results.
