HELP: .exe files open in Windows Media Player

Yesterday, I did something with my computer, and now it opens every .exe file in Windows Media Player; this pretty much means I can't do anything anymore. When I rightclick a .exe program, it doesn't say "Open with..". SystemRecovery doesn't work either. Please help me fix this problem

    Hello Mr John

    I am facing the same problem,i.e all the exe files are opening with wmp.

    I have logged into the link provided by you and followed the instructions but to no avail.

    Pl help

    I am using windows vista home personal edition and I get the same thing.  I tried to go into default programs, and Windows Media Player doesn't list the .exe file for me to uncheck.

    This is happening to me, too. In Windows 7 Ultimate. Everything was working fine--now all of a sudden, WMP is trying to open every program and every file. I tried the link above, but the .exe files don't show up. It changed all my program icons (IE, FireFox, Outlook, itunes, Orbit, etc), too--they look like MP3 icons. Also, my sidebar disappeared.

    HELP! My computer is, for all intents and purposes, unusable at this point.

    Hi, I have the same issue and I could not find the .exe file extentions in the area that you suggested.  My windows media player also is trying to open .exe files but cannot and I cannot find a way to change the default program for this file extention.  please help.
