Can't Auto Enable Intergration Features. Installed Windows Virtual Pc KB 958559 update. Host Systems: All of Windows 7. My system Windows 7 Home Premium

Installed Guest System Windows XP SP3 which is supported and can not get Auto Enable of Intergration Features, otherwise Virtual PC works great. Have tried to install KB961742-v3.exe to allow remote access but will not work. Tells me unable to install. Thanks in advance.

Izzybee you're absolutely RIGHT! You CAN run Windows Virtual PC (WVPC) on Windows 7 Home Premium. XP Mode requires Enterprise, Pro and Ultimate.

Refer http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/thread/7c17c5b1-9c12-42d6-97e8-4c847c04e2e9 for more details where it has been clearly stated and I have seen users around running WVPC on W7 Home Premium.

Izzybee, you may post your query in the Windows 7 Virtualization forum for better support regarding the issue you're facing:

    Cheers!

Hi Bob. Anyone running Windows 7 can launch the Virtual PC but can't download XP mode. If you have a XP SP3 Operating System or Vista SP1 System you can load it on the Virtual PC.

    Hi Izzybee,

KB961742-v3 is supported for XP professional only.

Before you install Windows Virtual PC, verify that your system supports hardware-assisted virtualization (such as Intel VT or AMD-V) and that the hardware-assisted virtualization option is enabled in the BIOS. For more information about how to do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

If your computer supports virtualization, please follow the steps mentioned below to install KB961742-v3:

    • Ensure that Windows Virtual PC is installed.

    • Start the Windows XP virtual machine (VM).

    • If Windows Virtual PC Beta was used with this VM, uninstall the Integration components (Click Start, click Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Virtual PC Integration Components) in the Windows XP VM.

    • If Windows Virtual PC Beta was used with this VM, uninstall the RemoteApp update (Click Start, click Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Hotfix for Windows XP (KB961742-v3)). Reboot the virtual machine.

    • Install the latest integration components in the virtual machine from Tools->Install Integration Components.

    • Download the Update for Windows® XP SP3 to enable RemoteApp™ to the VM.

    • Double click on the file to start the installation. Follow the instructions on the screen. Restart your virtual machine to complete installation.

Let us know if this helps!

Hi Gokul. I sould say that I can't even do a manual enable of the Intergration Features. I have tried to install KB961742-v3.exe to allow remote access. I get a message that Set up cannot continue because one or more prerequsites are required. Thanks in advance Izzybee

    Hi Izzybee,

In Windows® Virtual PC (WVPC), Virtual Machine (VM) start-up and close behavior can be configured to have a customized user experience.   Few start-up options can actually lead to perceivably faster launching of Virtual Applications.

If Integration Components (IC) are installed, then by default the VM tries to enable Integration Features (IF) on VM start-up.

This behavior can be changed through VPC Settings -> Integration Features -> Uncheck ‘Enable at startup’.  However the user always has the option to manually enable/disable Integration Features while VM is running, from the tools menu as well.

Refer the link below for more information on Auto-Start and Close Options for Windows Virtual PC:

Additionally, you may also refer the TechNet links for more information:
