    Hi buddy300,

Welcome to Microsoft windows vista forums!

    a.   Does this happen only with the games?

    b.   Do you recall any changes made to the computer prior to this issue?

    C.   Have you installed any debugger software on the computer?

This issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

    ·         There are programs (such as an antivirus program or debugging software) that run in the background and that interfere with the game startup process.

    ·          Your sound card or sound card drivers are outdated.

    ·         The Creative Audigy sound card is installed in your computer. This sound card may conflict with the game startup process.

I would suggest you to perform the following steps:

Step 1:  Disable the security software on the system tray and then check.

(Note: Enable the security software back after the test)

    Step 2:

Put the computer in clean boot (to figure out if any third party software is hindering the process)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135  ----> How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Check with the Step 1 (Perform a clean boot):- if everything works fine after a clean boot, you can infer that some third party services are causing the problem.

Proceed with the remaining steps to pin-point out the third party service.

(Note: After you figure out the problem causing program, you may have to update or install a higher version of the program and also remember to put the computer back to normal startup)

Step 3: try the steps mentioned in the article

Games: Error Message: A Debugger Has Been Detected: Unload the Debugger and Try Again

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812759

Step 4: System restore: - To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    a.     Click Start, type system restore in the Start Search box, and then click System Restore in the Programs list. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.

    b.    In the System Restore dialog box, click Choose a different restore point, and then click next.

           c. In the list of restore points, click a restore point that was created before you began to experience the issue, and then click next.

         d.      Click Finish.

         e.      The computer restarts, and the system files and settings are returned to the state that they were in at the time that the restore point was created.

    Thanks and Regards:

Coooooooooky, I have a Dell laptop with Windows Vista 64 bit edition, which I was trying to run SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition on. I tried many of the things listed here with no success until I had uninstalled the PC Tools Threatfire software I had on my laptop. Although I tried running SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition with Threatfire suspended the SimCity game still gave that error message described above. It also seems that when trying to do a clean boot on my Windows Vista system Threatfire, I am guessing for security purposes, re-enabled itself when I restarted the computer.

In my experience, only a few programs I have tried to run gave errors or worked incorrectly because of Threatfire (without Threatfire showing a warning, which it then could "learn" from; meaning Threatfire didn't show any dialog window which usually allows the user to choose whether or not to allow the process to go through and complete), which is unfortunate because in concept and in all other practical applications it is a very good program.

I also have acquired this problem recently. This happened to me around the 10th, 11th or 12th of October. I can no longer play any games that I could previously play. It would seem to coincide with a windows update. Since then my computer has at times not recognised my anti-virus software so think there is maybe a conflict. Out of interest what anti-virus software do you use? Also has this advice given by Ajay K worked for you?
