Windows 7 error: Location is not available

I am using Win7 professional. When the computer goes to desktop screen, it appears a warning:

 Location is not available

C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer.or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network and then try again. If it still cannot be located the information might have been moved to a different location.

Moreover, the desktop theme is changed to windows classic.

I have tried many ways to fix it, but it is just comtemporary. Do you know how to detect the problem and fix  it? Thanks.

Realizing that the original poster has probably moved on from this problem, wanted to post this in case it helps someone else.  Apparently Windows 7 has a Trusted Installer group that is separate from the Administrator group.  If a user tries to change something in a "controlled" folder and is not part of this Trusted Installer group, the system returns a "location not available" error.

I've had this problem several times. I've upgraded my daughter's laptop from Starter to Windows 7 Home Premium.  After log in, the whole aero glass display is gone and it looks the desktop looks like windows 2000.  What I've done to bypass or recover my desktop is that I log out and log back in and everything looks normal again.

Is there a fix to this  problem/bug?  Kindly assist.

I read the answer but it makes no sense to me.  What are the MSconfig tools and where are they?  Where do I check process start?

check the process start with windows (startup menu) and check process run as startup with msconfig tools. One of you process try to access to a missing location (disk, USB key, USB drive, Network place,...).

So maybe you've install a soft from a network place and this process need files on this place.

Do you have the same issue if you start windows in safe mode ?

    regards
