The settings in you computer for the network must match the settings in the router. If you can access the router setup pages, or if you can get the settings from someone else such as the network administrator (if there is one), get those settings.

Next, delete the present network settings. Next, set it up again with the settings you recently optained.

I would turn SSID broadcast on.

    Hi Tom:

I just purchased the same Lenova Thinkpad as orignially described (with Windows 7 Home Edition) and have similiar errors.  Currently, I am using a similiar laptop, which is able to connect to my router wirelessly and via ethernet cable, the only difference is this laptop is running Windows Vista Home Edition.

Obtaining the Lenova Thinkpad yesterday, I went through the same steps to setup my router.  The connection is automatically detected, I set it as being as being a Shared Connection with WEP encryption, and a 10 digit password.  I am told that this network is detected but "hidden" when trying to connect wirelessly.

I am able to connect to the same router when I simply connect via an Ethernet cable, and the connection automatically configures itself.

My router used to be setup so that only certain IP addresses were allowed.  Now, all blocks have been removed.  I made sure that IP6 and IP4 connectivity is setup so that everything is detected automatically; hence, it does not rely on a specific IP address.  This is how I have set up other computers in the past, and this is the first time I cannot figure out what is going on?

Why is the network detectable but considered hidden?

When going to the Adapter Properties, I do not see the option of turning SSID on.  The diagnostics say SSID equals 7.  I believe this is becuase my connection is named linksys, which is seven letters.

    Do you have any suggestions?

This computer is brand-new.  It would not connect wirelessly before Windows 7 installed its critical updates or after. I have tried restoring the computer to its original configuration, and trying to connect with the same results.  Windows Virtual PC is not installed, nor does the software come with the PC.

Is SSID broadcast on?  There is no network administrator, but how can I access the router setup pages?

There is a installation CD that came with the router, but I have never had to use this before, only on Windows 2000.  It contains Norton Anti-Virus and simply  moniters the network connection, something I believe Windows 7 and Vista already do on their own.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks.

Embarrasingly enough it turns out the router had MAC address filtering enabled - preventing my connection.

I have the same issue on my Hewlett-Packard laptop.  It's running Vista and connecting to a Linksys Wireless B Broadband Router Model No. BEFW11S4 with an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection Adapter.  Same error messages and everything.  What you're saying makes sense, but I would like a more detailed translation on how to change my computer's settings to match my router settings.  I would much rather try to fix it myself than have a computer shop replace the network card altogether and pay a small fortune while I'm at it.  You're help would be much appreciated!!!
