    Hi bamagalxtwo,

     Thanks for visiting answers.microsoft.com forums.

My first suggestion would be to check the drivers for your keyboard to make sure that they are up to date and also that the device is working correctly.

Click on the Start Orb, > Control Panel > Keyboard.

Click on the Hardware tab, and select Properties button. Click on the Driver tab and select Update Driver.

If your keyboard’s driver is updated, try typing again and see if your cursor still jumps around.

Is this a problem you recently starting having?  Have you made any changes to your computer (install/uninstall) and noticed this problem started?

Is this a laptop or computer you are having problems with?  Are you using a wireless keyboard?

If this is a laptop, perhaps your palm is hitting the touchpad which is making the cursor jump around.

You can disable this by going to Control Panel and enter the mouse/touchpad settings. Find a Checkbox that reads "disable touchpad when typing.

You can check out this article to see if it may provide any help

    I hope this information helps.

This is a test just as much as a reply to this issue.  I have no idea why this happens, but I seem to be typing okay, and I hope it's not a fluke.

On another site, I found this solution:  use your function keys ([Fn] + <hotkey>) to turn off the touch pad.  The site (Yahoo) said that each company uses a different hotkey. It listed F8 and F9 as common.  Mine is an Acer Aspire (running Windows 8), and the key is F7.  The icon on it looks like a finger pointing at a square.  Wow, this seems to be working!

Don't know if this is a conflict that involves input device drivers (mouse/touchpad/keyboard), but I can type now that it's off.  I can feel my blood pressure dropping to normal range.

    Hope this helps somebody!

    Cheers,

    Diana

    Hi Crockett1953,

My wife has a Toshiba and suffered from the same frustration. Here's what you do:Go to "Start Button", "Settings", "Control Panel", then click on "Mouse" icon.Go to the tab near the end on the right side called "Advanced".Click the "Advanced feature settings" button.Look in the lower right corner area for "Pointer speed and tapping settings".Click on the "Settings" button for that feature. This will open the "Detailed Touch Pad Settings" dialog box.Click the "Tapping Settings" button.Look near the bottom of the dialog box for the "Operations during key input" feature, and put a "check" in the box next to "Disable tapping during key input".I have the delay setting right in the center.Click "OK" on all the dialog boxes as you close out.

I have this problem as well.  Often, when typing a character will jump to another part of the page entirely!

I have this same problem....I type and the characters dance all over the screen.  I have a Toshiba Satellite P305-S8822 and have no ability to disable the touchpad, as you suggested to this person.  I do a "search" for that phrase, and find nothing.  Are there any further suggestions to resolve this issue?  Thank you.
