Windows 7- FIles in Desktop Folder do not appear on actual Desktop

I've had Windows 7 installed for a few months, haven't had a single issue with it until that last round of updates. After reboot, everything on my Desktop was gone, including the Recycle Bin. However, if I go to my Home directory, all of my files, links, Folders and Recycle Bin are still there. If I copy or drag something to the Desktop, it immediately dissapears, but, again is in my Desktop Folder.

I've tried everything I can think of and have found fixes for similar issues in Vista, but they do not work with Windows 7.

Maybe try to right-click on desktop, view and uncheck view desktop icons; then repeat and re-check the box. I had that happen before and that worked for me...

This happened to me too. Here is the solution that worked for me: right click on the desktop -> "View" -> check or uncheck "Auto Arange Icons". All the files and folders will apear, unfortunately all on the left side. You will have to drag and drop them where you need but, hey, you files are back on the desktop :-)

    Hope this helps.

step 1: >>right click on desktop>>view>> checkmark "show icons"

step2:   >>right click on desktop>>personalize>>change desktop icons, now select all icons you want on the desktop display

I didn't have to uncheck anything, the "view desktop icons' was already unchecked.  Why it was was the question.

    Click Start

Type: CMD, from the results, right click CMD

    Click 'Run as Administrator'

At the Command Prompt, type: sfc /scannow

This will check for any integrity violations
