Hi I can open and close the disk drive but when I try to run the disk (it wont autoplay) it comes up with a message E:/ Application not found

in the properties for the disk drive it shows as disk full - even when I take the cd or dvd out and close the drawer.

I followed the fix it myself - and got to this 3rd option below:

however within the registry subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinlogonI have no Winlogon

I checked the hardware inside to make sure the plugs are in place for the cd drive and they are as far as I can tell .

I've seen a lot of blog about this issue - and still no further forward  - can anyone help?

Method 3: Make sure that the CD-ROM is available only to users who are logged on locally Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

*322756*(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ ) How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

The Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged on user only option might be turned off. To turn this option on, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon 4. In the navigation pane, under Data, if the value for allocatecdroms is0, go to step 5. 5. In the navigation pane, under Data, if the value for allocatecdroms is1, right-click allocatecdroms, and then clickModify. 6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK. 7. Exit Registry Editor. 8. Test to determine whether the issue is resolved.

If this method resolves the issue, you are finished.

I have been having this same problem "Application not found". This error started after I ran windows update. I have however found a solution for this problem.

If you disable windows media player, reboot, then re-enable windows media player, the problem goes away.

I have reinstalled windows 7 x64 home premium twice(2) now because of this problem. I haven't been able to find anything from microsoft addressing this issue,

but it is a media player issue. When I do a fresh install of win7 everything works fine, then both times I started getting this error, it was after running updates...

But this will fix your error. I don't know for how long? Since I just today resolved my problem. But it does work now... No Errors.

I'm running Vista 64 Home Premium had had my Samsung Model SH-S223Q stop reading any disk I put into it.  My system recognizes the drive and the driver is up to date (I even reinstalled it to make sure) but only receive the "Application not found" error message when I attempt to read the disk.

I followed the steps above and got down to \Winlogon within the REGEDIT but do not see "Data" within the navigation pane.  So that is as far as I can take your suggested Method #3.  I saw an article on the web that indicates that an update from Microsoft caused all these CD R/W problems.  Is this going to be fixed?
