How to resize photos

When I scan a photo into Windows Vista, I see my photo at about 1/4 the size of the page and the rest of the page is blank.  So when I try to print the photo, I get a white page with the photo only being 1/4 of the size of the page.  On Windows XP, there was an option to make the picture full size when you previewed it BEFORE scanning.  Is there an option like that in Windows Vista?

Also is there an option to save each photo on a photo by photo basis into a different folder or do they all have to be saved in the same place.

    Hi ouiseypup,

    a)    Which software are you using to scan the photos?

    b)    Which version of windows vista are you running on the computer?

Yes, it is possible to select the area to be scanned on windows vista.

There is usually an option in the scanning interface to select the area to be scanned. It is not necessary to scan the entire area of the scanning bed if the photo is smaller than 11.7" x 8.5" (for an A4 scanner). That will get rid of most of the white area and make scanning at high resolution much quicker, but you will need to do a quick preview scan to see the photo on the scanning bed to know which area to select.

If you’re using windows photo gallery, follow the steps mentioned in the link below to change the scanning settings.

    Saving photos:

The Pictures folder is a convenient location to store all of your digital pictures. Many graphic design and photo-editing programs use this location by default when you open or save pictures. It is also the default location to import pictures from your digital camera, scanner, or other media device however; you can manually save the pictures based on photo by photo basis into a different folder manually.

    Hi Ajay--

I've got the resizing issue figured out--thanks for the help.  But how do I do the underlined part?  I don't see any options for choosing where to save each photo.  I have my photos organized in folders:  Christmas, weddings, etc.  It would be so much easier to scan them right into the correct folder.  Is that possible?

    Thanks,

    Ouisey

THanks so much for your help.  It seems like there is a solution to my problem after all.

    ======================================

Sometimes the auto-edge detection abilities of a scanner

are not exact and your scan may include the whole scanning bed.

If you choose the advanced scanning option you can left

click / drag a box around the exact area you wish to scan.
