    Hi

    If you are using the UK Keyboard, press SHIFT+3.

    If you are using the US Keyboard, with NumLock on, hold down the ALT key and type 156 on the Keypad. When you release the ALT key, the pound sign will appear.

    You can also, Change your keyboard layout in Windows 7.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank You for using Windows 7

    I've searched the net after buying a US Windows 7 laptop and need the £ sign and discovered that there are a lot of people like myself with laptops bought in the US but they are based in the UK. The US keyboard doesn't have a UK £ sign on it and to change the keyboard to the UK layout messes up a few other keys. What I wanted was to change the existing symbol # (shift+3) to the £ symbol rather than change the whole keyboard layout which is what I feel a lot of other people are wanting to do. The best method I found was to download the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator and do the following;

    1. Open the MKLC program and load the existing keyboard (probably US)
    2. Tick the shift box on the left then click on the # button which opens up a VK_3 Shft box
    3. Open character map and select the £ sign and copy. Paste this over the # in the VK_3 box and click OK
    4. Select project then build DLL and Setup Package and complete that process.
    5. Once saved then open the folder and run setup.
    6. After this has been installed you will then be able to add another keyboard in control panel, which in my case was US-custom, and make it the default.

    Now shift+3 gives me the £ sign.

    There are other keystoke methods for getting the £ sign but this method gave me what I wanted. I guess this could be used for any key changes you want.

    Hope this helps!!!

    Sharpkeys is a good program and makes it very easy to do such changes

    that you can also do manually. I use Sharpkeys to turn off the Insert

    key and the Caps Lock key, both of which I never want to use, but

    sometimes hit accidentally.
