Hi Legendx,

a)    Do you recall making any changes to the computer before this happened?

b)    Does this happen with other programs as well?

I would suggest you to try the following steps:

1.    Open Fonts by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Fonts.

2.    See if you have Tahoma and verdana’ in there.

3.    Make sure that both Tahoma Regular and Tahoma Bold (also veranda regular\bold) are there.

Uninstall font

Select the fonts (which are causing problem) On the File menu, click Delete.

If you don’t see the File menu, press ALT.

Install or uninstall fonts

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Install-or-uninstall-fonts

You may search online for fonts that you deleted, download and install them.

Note: Before you download a font, make sure you trust the source.

If the issue persists,

Step 2:  **Run SFC (**system file checker) scan

The system file checker (SFC) utility allows administrators to perform a scan of all protected resources to verify that they are the correct version. If SFC should find any incorrect versions in any of these protected resources, SFC will replace them with the correct versions.

You can always run a SFC scan on the windows vista computer. To run a SFC scan follow the steps below:

a)    Click on start and in the start search bar type cmd, right click on the command prompt icon in the programs area and then click on run as administrator.

b)    At the command prompt type sfc /scannow and then press enter.

    MeTooer here.

Earlier, with some programs I wasn't interested enough in to pursue the issue, I had gotten an error message such as the one above.  But on the program I was critically interested in, there was no message at all.  Had to get it from the Events Log.

Thank you Ajay K.  I had tried the Control Panel measures but never found a chance to uninstall or re-install.  I guess maybe the "Alt" you used might have done it, but there seemed to be no suggestion to use that key for anything I could see.

Note:  I had used SFC /scannow in the DOS window command box earlier, but it had given me an all clear on all the necessary files being present.

I finally just did as Siretrasher suggests.  Thanks to FontPalace for the free fonts--without any accompanying malware.

By the way, these must also have been what was causing the same problem with the FixIt programs I was trying to use for what I thought was an uninstallation problem.  They "stopped workihg" and quit without an error message as well.

    Hi

I had the same problem today with Windows 7 (out of the blue), Fortunately I still have my XP hard disk that has the Windows\Fonts\tahoma.ttf file on it.

I used the font manager as previously described to overwrite the existing Tahoma font with the XP one and the problem has gone away and doesn't seem to have affected anything else.

Interestingly, when I went back and look at the Windows/fonts folder on the Windows 7 machine, the tahoma.ttf does appear to exist in there, but VMC works fine.

BTW.I made sure I backed up BEFORE doing this.
