Default IME has stopped responding

Hi, I'm really new to this forum thingy but I really need some help please :-)

My problem is that whenever I try to play a music file, there is a 70% chance that my computer will not play the file, windows media player will stop responding and when I go to task manager there is a process called Default IME which has stopped responding. Whenever I see this, the only thing I can do is force shutdown my computer because after I see that Default IME has stopped responding, I know that NOTHING else will work on my computer.

Games, DVDs, Music, Webcam, MSN, Ms word, Internet Explorer and more will just lock and not play any sound. they will stop responding as well.

As I said before, the only solution is to force shutdown :-(

I have tried everything to get rid of this annoying error, but nothing works.

My operating system is Windows 7 Pro 32bit, and my computer is a HP DV6-1143tx.

I am getting this error more and more frequently, and now the only sound my computer makes is the start up sound.

please help! I'm a student in year 12 and I need my computer!

    Hi rennc10,

    a)    Do you recall making any changes to the computer before this happened?

    b)    Does this happen only with specific file types?

I would suggest you to try the following steps:

Step 1: Let’s first go through the event viewer logs and check what is the application and module that is failing to load.

    Open event viewer

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Open-Event-Viewer

What information appears in event logs? (Event Viewer)

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer

Step 2: Put the computer in clean boot and test

Follow Step 1 in the link below,

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

If everything works fine after a clean boot, you can infer that some third party services are causing the problem.

Important: - Remember to put the computer back to normal startup follow step 7 in the link.

What is your operating system default input language? The following article addresses similar issue- Input Method Editor (IME)

Windows stops responding during Windows XP shut down

    Install latest Windows updates available

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Install-Windows-updates

    Regarding the sound issue

Try using the Playing Audio troubleshooter to fix the problem with sound

    Hello,

I am also having the same exact problem as Daniel Toomeys' post. Same drivers were updated a month ago. Just wanted to let you know, there are more than just one person with this problem. Thanks.

I noticed this start after the update to the Realtech HD Audio driver released about a month ago.  The driver update is 6.0.1.7404.  I haven't decided if I'm going to roll back the driver or not considering the only time I use that device is when I am on skype or ventrillo which is very rare these days.  But I think that new driver caused a blue screen I was hit with a few weeks ago and that is about the time I saw this new process show up as well.  Please take a look at this driver and tell us what you find.  This may be causing some problems.  I will update here if I roll back the driver and that fixes the problems.  If you would like some more info about my system to debug, please let me know.  As long as it doesn't impede my privacy, I will be happy to help.
