Will Corel WordPerfect 8 install on Windows 7 (64bit)

I have Wp8 (full office suite, patched to Sp7) that includes Photo House, a photo editing app that I find very handy for editing thumbnail photos for alumns on my high school web site.  To my knowledge, Corel dropped Photo House after releasing Wp8.  Does anyone know for sure?

Would love to be able to keep the Photo House feature and be able to run it on my new Windows 7 (64 bit) PC.  Has anyone been able to install and run Wp7 on Windows 7 and if so, what steps did you take?  Incidentally, my version of Wp7 ran fine on Windows 98SE, but I don't believe that Corel supported it beyond that version of Windows.

Thanks.

I would like to offer that I have installed Wordperfect 8 on Windows 7 x64.  Compatibility mode works, and the program runs fine, but you also have to run the program as administrator in order for some features (like saving settings) to work.

I used Windows XP (SP3) compatibility.  When you want to make changes to settings, run it as Administrator (right click shortcut, select "Run as Administrator.")  For most tasks you will not need to run as administrator, and you will have the UAC popup every time if you set this option in the compatibility tab.

Thanks for the feedback, Notbono~  Please elaborate.  When you ran WP8 in compatibility mode on Windows 7, what version of Windows did you set the application?  I used to run it on Windows 98SE from a previous PC.  Also, tell me more about running the program as Admin (eg, what check boxes are used, etc). Also, did you experience any conflicts withWP8 and MS Word?

    Thanks.

    Hello Web Shepherd,

Thank you for posting with the Microsoft Answers Forums.

I have included information from the Corel website for the products that are compatible with Windows 7. Word Perfect 8 is not listed.

The following Corel products work on Windows 7:

    • CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4
    • Corel DESIGNER Technical Suite X4
    • Digital Studio 2010
    • Home Office
    • MovieWriter Pro 2010
    • MovieWriter Pro Ultimate 2010
    • Painter 11
    • Painter Essentials 4
    • Painter Sketch Pad
    • Paint it! touch
    • PaintShop Photo Express 2010
    • PaintShop Photo Pro X3 (Painter Photo Essentials included with PaintShop Pro Photo X3 is also Windows 7 compatible)
    • VideoStudio Express 2010
    • VideoStudio Pro X3
    • WinDVD 2010
    • WinDVD Pro 2010
    • WinZip 14
    • WordPerfect Office X4

You might try compatibility mode for older programs to work with Windows 7.

If you have an older application for Windows XP or Vista that doesn't run in Windows 7, you may be able to get it working properly by running the program in compatibility mode.

    1. To begin, find the application or shortcut that is causing the problem, then right click on it and select Properties.
    2. Then, select Compatibility from the tabbed menu at the top of the properties page:
    3. Now, check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for..." box and select the OS you wish to emulate. For most applications, it will be Windows XP SP3. Once you are done, click OK.
    4. When you next launch the application it should run under compatibility mode using the OS you selected. If it still fails to run correctly, try another OS selection in step 3 and try again.

However, depending on your version of Windows 7, you might be able to run XP mode.  If you computer doesn't match the requirements, you might have to look at 3rd party virtualization products that will work on Windows 7 to be able to install and run Word Perfect 8.

    Running Windows XP Mode requires:

    1. Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate editions.
    2. A computer capable of hardware virtualization. This means your computer has a central processing unit (CPU) with either Intel-VT or AMD-V virtualization features.
    3. Virtualization features turned on in your computer’s basic input/output system (BIOS).

To determine whether your computer’s CPU is capable of hardware virtualization, go to the Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC support website and download a utility that can check whether your Intel or AMD CPU is compatible.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/configure-bios.aspx

To find your brand of processor so you can download the appropriate utility, click the Start button , right-click Computer, and then click Properties. Under System, next to Processor, you can see what type of CPU you have.

Even if your CPU can run Windows XP Mode, you might also need to turn on virtualization settings in your computer’s BIOS. Procedures vary depending on the BIOS manufacturer. For more information, see BIOS: frequently asked questions.

Hope this information will help get you up and running with your other programs.

    Marilyn

I don't know for sure, but I *think* versions of WordPerfect that old

are not compatible with Windows 7.
