OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bits with Windows Media Player 12. I try to change the destination folder before starting to rip songs from music CDs. but when I close the window where I did the change and then go back again the destination folder is set back to the one that was there before I did the change. ???!?. If I try to delete this folder then it is created again. What shall I do to correct this ?

and the very simple instructions are:

"Thank you so much for your help........ after reading this I went to LIBRARIES under Start Clicked on Music (right click to get to) Clicked RESTORE DEFAULT settings and voila now it works thanks again"

    Hi Toyman61,

Let us run the Windows Media Player troubleshooter and then try assigning the new default location.

Method 1. Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter

Open the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Click View all, and then click Windows Media Player Settings.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Media-Player-Settings-troubleshooter

Ripped files are automatically added to the Player Library. On your computer, the files are located in the folder in your Music library specified on the Rip Music tab of the Options dialog box. You can change the folder at any time. For more information about the location of ripped files, see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-settings-for-ripping-music

Method 2. **After running the troubleshooter we can try changing the default location and check.**Let us try it this way and make sure that we click on Apply and Ok both in the last step.

By default, when using Windows Media Player 12 to rip music CDs, audio files are placed in your "Music" folder, which in Windows 7 is "C:\Users[YOUR_USERNAME]\Music". You can customize the location.

    Launch Windows Media Player 12.

Change Default Location for Ripped Music Files in Windows Media Player 12

    1. In Library mode, press "Alt", then navigate to "Tools" -> "Options..." or right click on any blank space on the menu bar and choose "Tools" -> "Options...".

Change Default Location for Ripped Music Files in Windows Media Player 12 2. Switch to "Rip Music" tab. Click "Change".

    ![](http://www.recipester.org/images/b/bc/Change_Default_Location_for_Ripped_Music_Files_in_Windows_Media_Player_12-03.png)

Change Default Location for Ripped Music Files in Windows Media Player 12 3. Choose a folder as the location for ripped music. Then click "OK".

Change Default Location for Ripped Music Files in Windows Media Player 12 4. You can see the location for ripped music is now changed. Click "Apply" and  "OK" to close the dialog.

    Hello Shekar S,

I have tried to make the changes you suggested in your answer, but no luck so far. I changed the default location for the ripped music, and left the window. Then I try to check the setting of the default location, and it has reverted back to the original value... (?!?!?). Example:

    #1) Default setting: C:\user\music\favorites\mp3

    #2) New default setting: E:\user\wav

First I check the value of the default location. It is given in #1.

Then I try to change default location to #2.

When I then check the value of the default location, it has reverted back to #1.

I have also tried to delete the WMP database, but this has not changed anything either.. :-(

To make the problem even more weird: This has worked before....

I must have done some changes somewhere, but where.. ?  :-)

    Any help would be appreciated.
