get rid of PC Dock?

How can I prevent PC Dock from being loaded at start-up?

I don't want to have to click it off every time - as long as I know where to find it it is good enough.

It's the same as it's been since Windows 95:  the StartUp folder would not show AVG in any older systems either.  That's why there's the alternative.

Type the word msconfig into your Start menu, then press Enter.  Just like Windows 95 through XP: this will let you uncheck Startup items.

Depends: several manufacturer's provide their own version of a dock.  Dell Dock, HP, and a few others.  It might even be called RocketDock (rocketdock.com) which is the generic version that these companies customize and then provide on their machines.

While you can find and disable it from MSCONFIG, if you want to completely remove it, I'd actually recommend going into the Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program and remove it from there.

I believe the StartUp lists are the same in Windows 7 as the older OS versions.  For example, the StartUp folder in the Start menu can have startup items.  As in older OS versions, you can run the tool msconfig to remove startup items on a deeper level.

No, its an HP.  I tried all the simple methods, but it won't do it.  In older OS you had the start-up list you could modify, but I don't find anything of the sort in W7.

I bet you have a Dell, by chance?  It seems many users are posting the Dell Dock program that is being pre-installed by the manufacturer.

There are some advanced ways using utilities to force it to not load (msconfig), but I believe you will find options to control this using a much more direct method.  Try right-clicking the dock (maybe an icon or between icons) and see if you can find options, preferences, or settings.  There may already be an option for "Start when I login" or something similar.

Best of luck.  Let us know the outcome.  If the option isn't there or it doesn't work, we can try the other method.
