My PC keeps automatically shutting down with a note:

Windows must now restart because the DCOM Server Process Launcher Service terminated unexpectedly.

What is making this happen so frequently?

    Hello,

There are several possibilities that could be causing this so we will just have to rule them out one at a time. The DCOM Server Process Launcher is a critical Windows service that starts other services as needed. If it stops working, Windows will automatically restart your computer to get it started again. This issue seems to be happening with many users.

    • Was there any changes done to the computer prior to this issue?

    A) First, start the computer in safe mode. Safe mode is useful for troubleshooting problems with programs and drivers that might not start correctly, or that might prevent Windows from starting correctly.

    i. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer.

ii. Keep tapping the F8 key while the computer is restarting.

iii. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the safe mode option you want, and then press ENTER.

When your computer is in safe mode, you'll see the words Safe Mode in the corners of the display. To exit safe mode, restart your computer and let Windows start normally.

Check http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/323ef48f-7b93-4079-a48a-5c58eec904a11033.mspx  “Start your computer in safe mode”.

    B) If the issue does not persist in safe mode, put the computer in the Clean Boot. The following link has steps showing how to perform clean boot. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Please ensure that the computer is set to start as usual by following the step 7 from the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 .

    C) Try scanning the computer using Antivirus software because this issue can occur if the computer is infected with virus. You can do a PC Safety scan by clicking on the link http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm  and Clicking on the Full Service scan and accept the Agreement

    Post back with results.
