Unable to Boot - Stop Error 0x000000ED

My laptop boots returns saying "Repair or Restart windows" Click repair and the window never loads. I turned off automatic reboot, blue screen error states "Stop Error: 0x000000ED". I cannot load the repair screen even when I insert the original Windows 7 CD, the CD boots but it will not load the repair screen menu.

Do I have a hardware problem? Or is this a software problem? I need help asap as I return to study today and need my laptop

Regards

Kylie

    Hi,

I can get to the F8 menu,

when I click on repair it loads and then stops with a blank windows 7 screen. I cannot access any windows repair menu, it just stops and becomes idle

    This is the original error

    STOP: 0x000000ED (OxFFFFFA8004C5D910, oxFFFFFFFFC0000185, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)

You can most likely fix it by using System Restore. Here we go:

    1. Keep tapping F8 during the early boot phase.
    2. Select Repair from the menu.
    3. Enter the Administrator's password when prompted. It is often blank.
    4. Select System Restore when prompted.
    5. Set Windows back to a point before this problem occurred.

Here is another way to perform a System Restore:

    1. Set your BIOS so that it uses the DVD drive as its primary boot device.
    2. Boot the machine with your Windows 7 Repair CD or with your Windows 7 installation DVD.
    3. Press a key if prompted to boot from the DVD.
    4. Select "Safe Mode Command Prompt" when prompted.
    5. Log on as Administrator if prompted.
    6. Select Repair when prompted.
    7. Select System Restore when prompted.
    8. Set Windows back to a point before this problem occurred.

I've a similar BSOD "unmountable Boot Volume" Stop error 0x000000ED

I've used all the normal methods to repair including the one you've suggested from the media. However I witnessed the same problems. After some period of time you're simply left with a cursor and the blank windows wallpaper. After pressing F8 on boot up none of the available repair options work.

The machine is brand new along with 30 others, so I've swopped out the harddisk with a known good one and found it boots up fine so there's no BIOS issues to be concerned about. I am also quite confident that the HDD itself is fine and it's purely down to corrupted W7 files.

As these were purchased through a retailer they are unfortunatley W7 home edition and an upgrade to Pro. Causing me some headache now as to which upgrade key went with which machine.

I had the simillar issue regarding to 0x000000ED (Unmountable_boot_device)...

    what helped to me:

    1. Turn to "FIX" menu
    2. Go to he command prompt
    3. Run chkdsk /r
    4. Let go trhu all repairs
    5. After restart go into the BIOS and check that all AHCI and RAID features are off (SATA drives calling like IDE must be on), save all changes and restart...
    6. Windows was repaired and runs fine :)
