AC'97 Sound Board driver for win 7, 64 bits

My notebook, rather old, is a Gateway with an AMD64 processor and a Realtek AC'97 sound board. It came with WXP Home Premium factory installed. Recently, I installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bits edition.

After this, everything worked fine, except the sound board.

Does someone know how to circumvent this issue?

    Hi gilbertofs,

The Realtek AC’97 sound card is listed as compatible with Windows 7 as mentioned at the below link -

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Search.aspx?type=Hardware&s=Realtek%20AC%2797%20sound%20board

I would suggest you to check if you have the correct drivers for the device installed on your computer –

Try and check if it is getting recognized in Device manager, to go to device manager follow the mentioned steps –

    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Click System and Maintenance, click System, and then click Device Manager.

Note If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-click System, and then click Device Manager.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow. 3. In Device Manager, expand sound, video and game controllers; check if it shows any exclamation or cross marks on the listed drivers. 4. You may try updating the sound driver or install/uninstall the sound driver after rightclicking on the listed driver.

Refer to the below mentioned link for guidance –

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly

You may check for an updated driver from the manufacturer and install the latest version. Please visit the below link for realtek for the drivers listed for Windows 7  and try ,manually updating the drivers -

    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

If the driver software is intact and you still face some issues then I would suggest you to refer to the below links for assistance –

    Hi Meghmala and Jason,

Thanks for the answer. I had already tried everything you said, with no results. By now, I realized that the drivers do work - for 32 bit Windows versions, not for 64 bit ones. The compatibility list tells exactly this: for 32 bits.

My solution: today, I installed the 32 bit version. Now, everything is ok. However, I lose my GENUINE Windows 7 64 bit copy. What a shame!

A last note: the sound board was recognized as a "Conexant AC'97 Sound Board", and not as "Realtek etc.". Are Conexant and Realtek the same, os related someway?

    Thank you again.
