Emails sent to me occasionally bounce back to the sender...

Most recently it has been a VIP who notified me (in an email) that they were having trouble sending me mail, and that some messages were returning to them.

I also occasionally get emails stating that they are bots from mailing lists, probing my address or something because newsletters they have been trying to send haven't got to me apparently...

This could potentially be a large problem if the sender doesn't try to send the message again, and if that sender is willing to offer me a job, for instance.

My thoughts are that maybe there is some way to clean or flush or do some kind of procedure to test the account or reset some bands (i'm just making up phrases at the moment).

Many thanks in advance,

Me

Messages to you from the riddlenut mailing list seem to

have been bouncing. I sent you a warning message, but it bounced.

I've attached a copy of the bounce message.

Firstly thank you both for you replies,

It is a Hotmail account, don't know if it is POP or not, but how would I go about contacting the makers of hotmail? I did assume that they would be linked to this forum somehow.. I can't find a link to actual hotmail support...

 Thank you :)

If you are opening your Hotmail with your internet browser then you aren't using POP.

Contacting Hotmail staff directly has always been next to impossible. You can post a message at the Feedback link under Help in the Hotmail page. All of the available Hotmail support

options are accessed from the Help icon in Hotmail. Probably the Hotmail forums would be the best place to get quick responses to your issues. The Hotmail solution center is at the link below.

If you could post one of the bounce messages delivered to one of your senders, it would be helpful.  They usually contain an explanation of why the message couldn't be delivered.  The mailing list message you posted doesn't help with that in this case.

Emails are bounced at and by your email provider, not your computer or Windows. This might be your ISP if they provide your email service, or a free webmail service like Hotmail or Gmail if that is what you are using for email. Unless the problem is because of a spam filter that you set yourself, you have little or no control over bounced messages other than to contact the server's support department for confirmation/information about correcting the issue. The mail in question might be running afoul of the email provider's anti-spam or antivurus software for example.

Purely IMO, the message you attached could be legitimate but it reads more like a phishing attempt than a genuine bounce message.  If it is a group you actually belong to I'd suggest you send them an email directly to the address you already have for them and confirm that this is their bounce message. (don't use any links in the messages you recieved, just in case it is malware)

What type of account are you using?  If it's a POP account, do you leave copies of messages on the server?
