I already checked on the persissions, i am logged on as administartor, UAC turned off.

There was a bad uninstall of the product, had to run "Windows Installer Cleanup" because was receiving message "already installed" at setup.

Now i have this Error 1402. Something else i need to clean up before reinstallation?

Thank you for any advice.

Jean-Luc

RESOLVED!

(Error 1402 while attempting to re-install Office 2003 on Vista Home Professional)

This was resolved for me by running the "Fix-It" that resets registry security settings.  It is at the following knowledgebase article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222

Then re-run the install

Thank you to the folks at the following forum/post

I also have the same problem:

    Windows 7 Ultimate x64

    Intel i7 860 @ 2.80GHz

    8192MB RAM @ 1066MHz

    NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250

I am trying to reinstall AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 and get the following error:

Error 1402. Could not open key:

Unknown\Components\CE9F956D822F0B24F8C686CBCD51F511\7D2F3875000890400020000060BECB6AB. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

I am the administrator, and when I change the permission settings they just default back. Can someone please help with this?

I want to use my computer for what it was originally purchased for and get off this laptop, 1.6ghz core 2 duo and only a single screen is a pain...

    Thanks,

    Alex

    Hi Guys

I had the same error code on a Vista laptop while trying to install Office 2007. Clean boot, turning off UAC, turning off services = all didn't work. The problem was the permissions for certain registry keys were corrupt and I couldn't give me or the system rights to them.

This is how I fixed the problem:

First i followed the steps here to reset some of computer registry permissions (you will get an error, this is normal)

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222

Completing these steps allowed me to modify the registry key permissions.

So here come the bad part. I had to run the installer over and over again, and fix the permissions & owner for each registry key that office 2007 bitched about...

    Re: Re-Install Quickbooks Pro 2010 in Win 7 Pro/64

I was dumb enough to run an Intuit Update (R5) for Quickbooks and got errors...spent 2 hours on the phone with their tech, she had me uninstall, then try the clean boot/re-install- which failed again. She also tried creating a new user account and tried to install from there. No go. Ultimately, I get the same error every time:

I get the Error 1402: Could not open key: " UNKNOWN\Components\DD89A......

I have tried to search the registry for the complete key/value or part of it- I cannot find ANYTHING under "UNKNOWN\Components"

I am totally screwed at the moment- I cannot re-install Quickbooks which contains my business records, and I am getting desperate for any help.

Intuit says its either a Win 7 bug or a registry problem and says my only resort is Microsoft.

If there is anyone who can help, I would surely appreciate it.

I am in real trouble if I can't access my business records.

    Mark
